چکیده

In a previous paper1) it was shown that a slow potential similar to the so-called dendritic potential of the cerebral cortex occurs in reponse to direct electric stimulation of the carp's retina. Based on various experiments it was inferred that this potential originates in the retinal network intervening between the receptor cell layer and the ganglion cell layer. In the normal photoreceptive processes some electrical change must be induced from the receptor cell layer into the retinal network. Therefore, the retinal network represents a common path for photic and electric excitation of the retina. The present paper deals with the interaction between slow potentials caused by photic and electric stimuli. The conduction velocity of the potentials evoked by direct electric stimulation of the cortex was measured by a number of investigators, 2-6) and values ranging from 0.1 to 2 m./sec. were obtained. In the present experiment we measured the conduction velocity of the negative slow potential to direct electric stimulation of the retina.

An electrophysiological study of the superior colliculus and visual cortex.

In cats anesthetized with Nembutal, simultaneous recording of evoked potentials from superior colliculus and visual cortex to single light flashes gave mean onset latencies of 36.5 msec in the former and 27 msec in the latter. Onset latency to electric stimulation of optic nerve was 8 msec in colliculus and over 1 msec in cortex. Since similar latency differences were obtained from colliculus a...

Adaptation in the Visual Cortex: Influence of Membrane Trajectory and Neuronal Firing Pattern on Slow Afterpotentials

The input/output relationship in primary visual cortex neurons is influenced by the history of the preceding activity. To understand the impact that membrane potential trajectory and firing pattern has on the activation of slow conductances in cortical neurons we compared the afterpotentials that followed responses to different stimuli evoking similar numbers of action potentials. In particular...

Comparison of the Wave Amplitude of Visually Evoked Potential in Amblyopic Eyes between Patients with Esotropia and Anisometropia and a Normal Group

Background: We compared the wave amplitude of visually evoked potential (VEP) between patients with esotropic and anisometropic amblyopic eyes and a normal group. Methods: The wave amplitude of VEP was documented in 2 groups of persons with amblyopia (15 with esotropia and 28 with anisometropia) and 1 group of individuals with normal visual acuity (n, 15). The amplitude of P100 was recorded mono...

Binaural interactions of electrically and acoustically evoked responses recorded from the inferior colliculus of guinea pigs.

Binaural interactions within the inferior colliculus (IC) elicited by electric and acoustic stimuli were investigated in this study. Using a guinea pig model, binaural acoustic stimuli were presented with different time delays, as were combinations of binaural electric and acoustic stimuli. Averaged evoked potentials were measured using electrodes inserted into the central nucleus of the IC to ...
